I hope my new blog finds you all fit and healthy at the start of 2015! I am currently taking a much needed 2 week holiday from my business and have finally found the time to sit down and write a little note to everyone, I guess not entirely work free then!
How many of us do actually take a complete break from work, in this age of very fast and 24 hour available media? If we do have a spare few moments, how many of us find ourselves trawling facebook or some other social media site? Do we ever allow ourselves time to totally switch off and get out of the house, without the phone or tablet or games consul, and enjoy the fresh air and just sit and enjoy our surroundings?
Maybe it is something we should all concentrate on more in the years to come as technology becomes faster and faster! A little time out on our own to meditate and take ourselves off can work wonders for the soul.
As from 6th February 2015, I am no longer working from Indulge beauty salon at Barton Turf, I made the decision to work from home only now instead of skipping backwards and forwards between the two salons. I hope that most of my regular clients will still come and see me at home and of course I will welcome any new clients.

ARE YOU SITTING COMFORTABLY?
A couple of weeks ago I picked up a newspaper and there was a 2 page article on the dangers of sitting, in the western world our lives have changed so much in the past 200 years that we spend many, many hours just sitting. A vast majority of us spend our working day sitting at a desk in front of a computer and then return home and spend our evenings sitting in front of the TV or in front of the computer, surfing the internet, shopping or catching up with our social life. We are slowly dying from the ‘sitting disease’.
Sitting for hours on end has now been proven to link to an increase in diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, depression, obesity, cancer and back pain.
Typically, we now sit for 13 hours a day, sleep for eight and move around for only 3! Our bodies were not designed to do this, for thousands of years we hunted and grew food, we spent most of our lives upright and sat down only for an occasional break. Now, we simply are not moving enough to burn up all the calories that we eat, the best way of burning calories is by constantly moving, walking to work and taking the stairs, basic household chores, a bit of gardening or decorating, dancing or just getting up to turn the TV off. A person who incorporates these non-exercise movements in his or her daily routine can end up burning an extra 2,000 calories a day.
As well as the health benefits there are obvious physiological benefits too. Legs, back & posture are progressively weakened by our sedentary lives. Sitting for long periods also affects the muscles around our joints, so if you are sitting down your hip flexors become overactive and tight and your glutes become very weak-that's when you become prone to injuries
KEY TIPS TO AVOID THE DANGERS OF SITTING!
Moving your body throughout the day is crucial, even half hour is better than nothing.. Here are my tips:
1. Take phone calls standing up.
2. Be disciplined about taking your lunch break, & regular breaks throughout the day, make sure you get up and take a short walk.
3. Shift your position or fidget rather than sit still all the time. When you feel fidgety it is usually your body telling you to move!
4. Take the stairs instead of a lift whenever you can. Regular stair climbing can help bone density. 5. Try to limit the time spend sitting on the sofa in the evenings, watch the TV standing up while doing other household tasks like ironing for example. 6. Get out in the garden for an hour, sweep up, tidy up, paint that room that needs decorating, anything that gets you moving for an hour instead of just sitting.

I am now into my second month based at Ikens Leisure Pool, Barton Turf, within the very relaxing Indulge Beauty Salon and working along side the lovely Jade and Eliza.
Things are going very well indeed and I am meeting great new clients every day.
Spring is finally here, although the weather is so up and down at the moment some days have still felt a little wintery lately. I am sure things will warm up soon, just in time for the next bank holiday in a couple of weeks hopefully.
Reflexology seems to be my most popular treatment lately, it is an incredibly relaxing treatment which people find very pleasant and comforting. If you are experiencing an unsettled period in your life, one that is creating anxiety and tension then reflexology could give you the support you need in order to cope with your circumstances in a more positive frame of mind. Many of my clients report a great nights sleep after a reflexology treatment, something that many of us lack on a regular basis these day's. Simply Massage is expanding!!!
Spring is finally showing itself here in Norfolk, all the lovely daffodils are in full bloom, my favourite flowers, the spring flowers bring with them thoughts of fresh starts for many of us, out with the winter blues and in with the fresh spring air.
What better time then for me to expand my business and give up the office job once and for all. I am so pleased to announce that as from 1st April 2014, I will not only be able to offer treatments from my studio at home in Coltishall but I will also be available Tuesday to Saturday at Indulge Beauty Salon, Barton Turf. I was offered the chance to work at Jade Rivetts newly expanded and brand new salon at Ikens Leisure Pool. I am very excited about joining Jade and Eliza. It is now Autumn once again and the nights are drawing in, the leaves on the trees are changing colour and the weather will soon be turning colder. At this time of year we must not forget to look after ouselves, what with the onset of colds and flu, we should make sure that we put aside time for ourselves to ensure that our bodies are rested and receiving the very best nutrition that we can offer to ward off all of those nasty germs.
Our thoughts also begin to turn to the festive season. A season which can be quite stressful for some. Stress and tension contribute to many a health issue.
